The Chicago Sky got a big win on Friday, but took a much bigger loss with the season-ending injury to rookie superstar Angel Reese.
The big picture: Reese hurt her wrist in the win over the L.A. Sparks and will need weeks to recover, ending her fantastic rookie campaign.
- With Reese done for the year, the Sky's playoff chances have slimmed. They are currently tied for the final playoff spot with just a handful of games remaining.
What they're saying: "I'm filled with emotions right now that I have a season-ending injury, but also filled with so much gratitude for what is next," Reese wrote on social media.
- "Through it all, I have showed that I belong in this league even when no one else believed."
Zoom in: Reese had set numerous WNBA records for her rebounding, including most rebounds in a season, most offensive rebounds and longest streak of games with 20+ rebounds.
- Reese averaged 13.6 points, 13.1 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game.
- She was in a fierce competition for the WNBA Rookie of the Year trophy with the Indiana Fever's Caitlin Clark.
- She was the Sky's lone representative on the WNBA All-Star team.
Zoom out: Since Reese came to town she has captivated basketball fans with her play on the court and her style and persona off the court.
- She is a national star, securing endorsements, making celebrity appearances at Lollapalooza and even appearing at the Met Gala.
- In Chicago, she has created a huge following helping raise the profile of the Chicago Sky and the WNBA, including a frenzied atmosphere for home games at Wintrust Arena.
